The Evolution of Work and the Worker

Here are some interesting statistics from  the  Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Foundation paper, Shaping the Future.

1.  By 2050, the number of workers 65 and older in the US is expected to grow by 75% while the number of workers 25-54 is expected to grow by only 2 %.

2.  71% of Gen Y workers expect and want to do an overseas assignment.

3. Increasing labor costs in China may prompt UIS companies to move manufacturing to other countries like Vietnam, or Mexico, or back to the US.

4. The number of outsourced workers doubled to 6.3 million from 2010 to 2011, with the majority of them highly educated and living in North America or Asia.

5. Telecommuting increased 80% from 2005-2012 in the US.
